Today is my honey's birthday! In his honor, the sun is peeking out after 5 days of gray skies and temperatures only in the mid 50's F/10C. Unfortunately he is working, so it is definitely NOT true that every German has the day off on his birthday!
Tonight we will dine at our favorite Persian (translate to Iranian) restaurant in the neighborhood. We love the food and are practically Stammtisch Kunden! I think every German neighborhood is like ours... local pubs, restaurants where you are known.
Speaking of neighborhoods, bad news for all the old folks (and I am NOT included in that thank you very much, although I did hear a 10 year old in the building call me die Alterin, last week!). The Tenglemann grocery store, is closing. Hopefully, REWE or Tegut will take over the premises. It is so convenient to cross the street to the store when I need something in a hurry. The older women shop daily and the next closest markt is down 2 blocks and across a busy intersection with 2 crossing to make!
My darling niece Amy and family sent beautiful flowers yesterday. She is so sweet and always remembers me on special days. Speaking of Mother's Day, I know Cyndi will have a very special day as her family is together again. Chris came back from Afghanistan in late March and the circle is complete. I will spend some time with them when I fly to America soon. I can hardly wait!
