Easter 2010

We walked in our favorite Vilbelerwald yesterday afternoon and the scenery was almost unbelievable. The green of the Baerlauch (wild garlic) against the still bare Beech and Oak trees was a stark contrast. A few of the shrub type bushes are beginning to show a few leaf buds on their limbs. How quickly nature changes!

For Easter, we drove 2.5 hrs from Frankfurt to Wolfsram-Eschenbach, a small Medievel village south of Ansbach and not too far from Heidelberg. This is the sourthern part of Frankenland known as the Frankenhoehe. The village is surrounded by acrealand spotted with bits of forestland where the animals live. The terrain is relatively flat which meant I could hike further than when we are in the mountians.

We saw many deer in the meadows between the forests. On one walk Juergen saw a herd of over 20! Unfortunately, I was not with him as it was a 20 k hike. I was strolling around the old city of Wolfsrams-Eschenbach with a self guiding walking tour. Easter is one of the holidays where everything is closed, so I was not able to visit the local museum. The city was founded by The Deutscheorden in 1170. At the decline of the Orden (knight monks) after 1300, the mercantile importance of the city became more important

PS: 6 May 2010 - I know this is rather old for a blog, but thought I had published it!
