Several weeks ago, I had the occasion to rent a car here in Frankfurt. Now, every year I go to the US and rent a car and each time it is usually a different model, so I am quite familiar with most brands. HOWEVER, this rental was a shocker!
After opening the door with the electronic key, I adjusted the seat, mirrors, etc. Then I went for the ignition key hole and found none on the steering column. On top of that, no key in the electronic thingy...What the Sam Hill is this? OK dummy, you can figure this out.. I search all around the steering column and finally look at the dashboard. Only a POWER button! So OK, I push the POWER button and a little screen lights up on the dash that says: Press in the clutch to start. Hmmmm this is truly novel. Being the ESTJ that I am, I follow instructions and lo and behold, the motor rumbles to life.
Now my big question is: once you open the door, does the car "know" you have access and let you push the POWER button? What happens if you leave the electronic thingy in the car, close the door and some thief comes along. Can the car be started? At least with a normal key, if you forget to lock the door, there is still the problem on needing the key to start the motor.
Just a few Teckie questions for the day!
