Flew to U.K. last week to visit with sister Rebecca. Juergen and I had been there in May 2009 but I had not been alone since who knows when!
One thing for sure, I had not remembered how cold it could be in a 15th C cottage! The timbers shrink and expand and even with good insulation, it can be more than chilly. Winter has hit Europe and the UK big time. After a warm couple of weeks in November, the cold came blasting in full force last week.
As usual when I am in Eastington, Rebecca has a full social schedule planned. We had 6 for dinner on Saturday night for a Thanksgiving meal, complete with sweet potatoe casserole and marshmellow topping.
Sunday night was the Wythcliff Choral group concert. Rebecca has been singing in the chorus for several years. Music was great, the chapel colder than a refrigerator. Saw many car lap robes appear after the pause!
Monday night we were invited out into the country to a Sheep fest. Karen and Phil, along with another couple on their lane had slaughtered 4 sheep they had bought in the spring to keep the meadow bank trimmed. All of the neighbors from the "lower lane" were invited except for the Princess Royal who was probably already engaged. We had a wonderful evening except that by now I had a ferocious cold/cough and was really miserable. However I made it through the pudding before we called it a night.
Tuesday I begin the journey home and because of heavy snow fall, was delayed all along the way. 3 trains and a plane ride later, I was so glad to land at Fraport/Frankfurt late yesterday. I am nursing my cold today with herbal tea and lots of rest.
NOTE: the spellchecker is obviously not working these days so edited a few of the blatant errors I found.
