| the fog was thick and the woods quiet |
As we hiked slowly up, the forests on either side were a mix of birches and low branched fir trees, much like in the Black Forest. This old relic with moss growing on the bare lower limbs reminded me of a dancing lady!
The path was an old one, probably a connecting village road over the peak at one time. It was very rocky and uneven, so my back and legs were complaining the next day! No pigs or deer today, but the evidence of them rooting around under the trees was plentiful.
By the time we reached our goal, the high rocks, the fog was thick and produced some pretty eerie images. I caught J on top of the rocks barely visible. We had approached the rocks from below where he took my picture and then he climbed to the crest.
Before leaving the top we found a tower which we DID NOT climb - no view! On sunny days, visitors are surely expected for there was a picnic shelter just at the edge of the clearing.
As usual with a new walk, we are never quite sure where we will find food, and this time was the dreaded, "eat at the Autobahn restaurant when all else fails " walk. Oh well, can't always have rustic and wonderful! At any rate the walk was beautiful and worth repeating in better weather.
